Four days of presentations from Tennessee and national faculty

Monday ran as full-day training tracks; Tuesday and Wednesday ran general sessions with three concurrent workshops each block; Thursday closed with a call to action.

• TBI Financial Exploitation Prevention Hotline — the new statewide line letting a bank or credit union call the TBI in real time about a suspicious transaction, with the Department of Financial Institutions, the TN Bankers Association and the TN Credit Union League.
• Train the trainer on elder abuse response — a four-part EMS track on recognising abuse, neglect and self-neglect in the prehospital environment.
• Elder Abuse Guide for Law Enforcement (EAGLE) — forensic interviewing and field scenarios.
• Conservatorships in Tennessee — substitute decision-making, least-restrictive options and court oversight.
• National elder justice update — federal funding, legislation and policy, plus the Elder Justice Champion Awards.

Three days on the progress made and the path forward

Continuing education was filed for P.O.S.T. for law enforcement, 6 general / 7.5 dual CLE hours for Tennessee attorneys, and 12 social work CEUs including 7.5 ethics hours.

• The ethics of elder and vulnerable adult abuse — a two-part opening track for doctors, lawyers, social workers, officers and bankers alike.
• TBI Resource Center update — the case for a statewide elder justice resource center staffed by trained law enforcement.
• Overview of Tennessee elder abuse laws — the Elderly and Vulnerable Adult Protection Act of 2018, from investigation to prosecution.
• Mail fraud & money order scams — romance, lottery and work-at-home schemes, with the US Postal Inspection Service.
• Legal services: access to justice and the documents every Tennessean over 18 should have.
